aloha st. petersburgh

Well,

Welcome to the soul train bros blog. If your reading this be ready to embark on a journey with Mark Niskanen, Alexandra Kiss (Soul train sis) and I (Aaron Parach). I have already been traveling throughout France for the last three weeks and a couple of days ago I met up with Mark and Alex and Mark's mom Antonina, who is dope, in Helsinki.

To Begin with, getting from France to Finland was horrible. There was an illegal strike that began the morning I was suppost to leave. So, what should have taken an hour or so to check in a go through security took four hours and then on top of that, my plane was delayed for five hours. In total the amount of time I spent in CDG airport was all together to much.

Then came Finland. I walked off the plain into an empty airport at one in the morning (very nice airport), and didn't know if Mark knew when I was getting in. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to find a pay phone so i could call him, but when i finally found the exit which was hard to find, there was Mark, Alex and Mark's dad. It was quite a reunion, and i was so tired, it took me a good 10 seconds to realize that i was looking Mark dead in the face. Then to Kerava, which is where Mark's mom lives. It was really nice i got there and there was rye bread, salmon, cake and all sorts of Finnish goodies that Marks mom got ready. By the way, grandma, if you are reading this, Mark's mom makes you eat more often than you make us eat :).

Then day two of Finland. We went to Helsinki or Helstinky as some of Mark's call it (an amazing city) I GOT SHOES finally. we went to a sick sneaker store and i got these dope sneakers called Karhu Harlem airs. Karhu (bear in Finnish) is a company that hand makes their shoes in Finland, but due to bad finances they sold to an American company, but i got one of the last 27 pairs of real Karhus in the world, and they are dope, and really cheap.

after shopping the only thing to do was grill. For the last two days when we were in Finland, it seemed that if we weren't sleeping we were doing one of three things or a combination of them all: Drinking beer, but not in excess (don't worry mom) Olvi is the beer of choice, grilling and/or laughing. Along with those is also chillin with friends.

Mark has an awesome group of friends. everyone that i have met thus far has been dope. They nice and welcoming, and most of all they are interested in who you are and they love to chill. Also, like Mark everyone of his friends seems to been amazing at something, which is intimidating at times, but motivating.

Well, now we are in St. Petersburgh. We just got here. I will give you all an update when i know more.

Thanks for reading our blog and i can't wait to see you all when i get home.

Love,
Aaron

  1. Wow. Everything sounds great! I love the blog and look forward to seeing lots of photos. The inverse of what you are doing is happening here - trying to put the house back in order (hmmm, Mark, you'll know what I mean!!). Just chillin and Dad is giving lots of Segway tours which is great but I miss seeing him. Gabe's concert went well last night. Good crowd- not huge - and very into the music. Aunty Leslie was there with a friend. I'm going to pick rasberries and blueberries this morning with Ronna. We went grocery shopping last night. It's a whole new experience now that Mr. Fruit is in Helsinki and no one is here to eat cereal! We miss you guys a lot. It's VERY quiet!

Keep the blogs up! Also, can Mark send the photos of people on segways he took so Uncle Gene can make some banners? Dad would like those right away.

Have you left for St. Petersburg yet? I'm excited about seeing pictures.

    Love, Mom

  2. Wow. This all sounds amazing. What I love about your travels is that you are spending time with families as we did in France vs being a tourist and running from monument to monument. We hope one day to join you for a return trip and meet Mark's family who sound almost as wonderful as ours (jk)! Love you lots and miss you all - mom and dad

  3. When you get back, you can help dad plant a garden like Mark's babushka! Remember the incredible garden of the man next door to Danny and Helene in Waldosbach? He looked around 75 and very happy spending time walking between rows of one delicious thing after another. It reminded me of the garden Rapunzel's mother must have looked at in the fairytale.

Mark, we wish you were coming back for the laundry that I'm amazed to realize I'm still doing! How's the fruit in Russia? Mom

Alex - you look fabulous and happy. How's the trip for you? Come to dinner when you're home to share stories. Eddie and Vicki
